Which Type of Chemical Peel is Best for Me?
Are you considering a Chemical Peel? How can you know which is the best chemical peel for you? We’ve created this guide to help you determine which peel will best serve your aesthetic needs. Professional Chemical peels are a great option for many skin concerns, from hyperpigmentation to fine lines and wrinkles.
WHAT ARE CHEMICAL PEELS?
Chemical peels have been around since the mid-1800s! They gained popularity in the ’90s and early 2000s. We cleanse and examine your skin followed by applying your chosen chemical peel. Your skin may feel warm with a slight burning sensation that can last a few minutes. After a peel, your skin can feel tight and look red or flushed. Some peels come with no downtime or peeling, others slough off the top layer of skin to reveal a healthy new layer!
Our mission at Haus of Aesthetics is to help you ‘love the skin you’re in!’ Chemical peels are some of the quickest, simplest, and most effective complexion-improving treatments. Regularly receiving the best chemical peel for your skin type can help you maintain a smoother, healthier, more dewy-looking appearance.
WHAT’S THE BEST TYPE OF PROFESSIONAL SKIN PEEL?

The truth is, there is no one “best” chemical peel. Everybody’s skin is different, and no matter what type of skin you have, we have a medical-grade chemical peel for you! Our highly trained Master Estheticians will look at your skin type, skin goals, and determine the best type of chemical peel for you.
Chemical peels can be a standalone treatment, the perfect option to prep for more aggressive treatment, or an add-on! We love adding chemical peels to Hydrafacials, DiamondGlow Facials, IPL photofacials, and micro-needling! Ask your provider at your next appointment to elevate your next treatment with a peel.
What Are the Different Types of Chemical Peels?
At Haus of Aesthetics, we offer three different levels of chemical peels. The level that’s right for you depends on your underlying skin concerns and your individual treatment goals.
Basic Chemical Peels
Basic Chemical peels are a great place to start. You will see the best results with a series of multiple peels. Basic Chemical Peels produce a minimal amount of peeling, and in some cases, no peeling at all! Your skin will glow after a basic chemical peel. This option is great for someone who wants a gentle yet effective chemical peel with little to no downtime. These peels help with fine lines, dryness, acne, and minor pigmentation concerns.
Intermediate Chemical Peels
Intermediate Chemical peels penetrate deeper into the skin for more dramatic results. Intermediate peels come with mild to moderate peeling. These peels are for someone who’s ready to see results, with minimal downtime. Peeling usually starts on day 2 post peel and can last up to 5 days. On top of the concerns that basic peels can treat, intermediate peels are amazing for acne scars, hyperpigmentation, and wrinkles.
Advanced Chemical Peels
Advanced Chemical peels will slough off the dull, damaged top layer of skin, revealing a smoother more even complexion. Advanced peels give our most drastic results. These peels are best for someone who is committed and ready to peel. Peeling usually starts on day 3 post peel and can last 7-10 days. Pigmentation and sunspots can darken and slough off with the peeling process. Advanced peels are the best for those with darker pigmentation, deep wrinkles, and advanced scarring. This type is also the best chemical peel for sagging skin.
What Is the Best Professional Chemical Peel for My Skin?
Your skin type is a huge factor when determining which chemical peel is right for you. Individual skin concerns also play a key role in selecting any aesthetic treatment. Here are some specific things you should consider when choosing a chemical peel:
- Skin Type: Consider whether you have sensitive, oily, dry, or combination skin. Then, select a peel that’s designed for your skin type. People with sensitive skin typically choose basic chemical peels to limit irritation.
- Skin Concerns: What specific skin concerns do you want to improve with a chemical peel? Do you have acne, fine lines, hyperpigmentation, or uneven texture? Basic chemical peels are great for reducing the appearance of fine lines, but you may need an advanced peel to correct issues with acne, uneven texture, or hyperpigmentation.
- Lifestyle Considerations: The milder the chemical peel, the shorter the downtime. Therefore, if you have a busy lifestyle, a deep peel may not be the right choice.
What Should I Expect During Treatment?
It’s normal to feel some warmth and tingling after application of the chemical solution. The intensity of these sensations depends on the intensity of the specific peel you’re receiving. Any uncomfortable sensations should subside quickly after removal of the peel solution.
The outer layer of your skin will peel for up to 10 days following your treatment. The duration of the peeling phase depends on the intensity of the specific treatment you received. At the end of the peeling phase, your newly revealed skin should look and feel radiant, soft, and healthy.
Potential side effects include temporary localized redness, peeling, or increased sensitivity. If a chemical peel ever feels too harsh for your skin, try a less intense option next time.
How Should I Prepare for My Treatment?
Preparing for your treatment can help things go smoother and reduce your side effect risk. At the Haus, we recommend the following:
- Limit your sun exposure the week prior to and after treatment.
- Discontinue use of tanning products and potentially irritating skincare products such as Salicylic acid, Glycolic acid, Tretinoin and Retinoids.
- Be gentle and consistent with your skincare routine. This is so important with any chemical peel. We always have recommendations if you’re not sure where to start!
- Last but not least, always wear a medical-grade SPF if you spend any time in the sun!
We can’t wait to see you for your next peel. No matter what type you end up choosing, your skin will thank you! Still wondering what’s the best chemical peel? Contact Haus of Aesthetics for a complimentary consultation and personalized treatment recommendation.
What Are Chemical Peel Aftercare Instructions?
After your chemical peel, follow your provider’s aftercare instructions to facilitate healing. These may include:
- Avoiding facial scrubs and harsh skincare products for a couple of weeks
- Use a gentle moisturizer throughout the day to soothe the skin
- Always apply sun protection before heading outdoors
Your provider may also recommend limiting intense physical activity while your skin heals.
