Hormone Therapy Benefits for Men
Men are typically less likely than women to seek treatment for imbalanced hormones. However, hormone disruptions can cause significant problems when they happen to men, just like women. With therapy, men can enjoy many benefits, including:
- Greater energy levels
- Boosted mood
- Improved sexual function and desire
- Enhanced sense of well-being
- Improved confidence
- Boosted immune function
- Improved weight management
From being in a better mood to enjoying greater vitality in life, men with hormone concerns should consider HRT.
How Hormone Treatment Works for Men
Testosterone hormone therapy for men comes in many forms, including pellets, gels, patches, or injections. Pellets are some of the most popular HRT options for men. Our pellets contain high-quality bio-identical hormones and come from Anazao Health. They offer a simple way to deliver the desired amount of hormones directly into the body.
We insert one or more pellets subcutaneously (beneath the skin) via an injection. We numb the injection site beforehand to ensure your comfort. The most common insertion site is the hip area, which generally contains a higher fat composition. After insertion, we use a stitch or Steri-Strips to close the site. You can remove your Steri-Strips after about a week.
Hormone Imbalance Symptoms in Men
There are some common symptoms that men experience with hormone imbalance, such as:
- Decreased libido
- Infertility
- Erectile dysfunction
- Decreased muscle mass
- Chronic low energy
- Development of breast tissue
- Depression
- Trouble with weight management
How Long Hormone Treatment Lasts
The pellets slowly release a constant supply of hormones from their location beneath the skin. Each pellet treatment lasts about three months. The unique pellet delivery system offers many benefits, including continuous hormone availability, slow release of hormones, and direct absorption into the bloodstream.
We may also recommend carefully selected supplements and lifestyle changes as part of our hormone therapy treatments for men. Our goal is to improve not only hormone balance but overall health as well.
Hormone Therapy Benefits for Women
Hormone replacement therapy can be life-changing for women with imbalances. Here are some of the top benefits:
- Better sleep
- Improved energy
- Increased sexual desire
- Fewer mood swings
- Decreased anxiety and stress
- Enhanced mental function
- Bone density retention
- Improved weight management
How Hormone Treatment Works for Women
Hormone replacement for women works similarly to hormone replacement for men. We may recommend a cream, injection, or pellets. Many women prefer pellet injections because they last approximately three months per treatment. This delivery method is often preferable to daily cream applications or pills.
We may also recommend lifestyle changes and supplements as part of our hormone treatment recommendations. We try to take a holistic approach to reduce symptoms and address their underlying causes.
Risks and Side Effects of HRT
Hormone Imbalance Symptoms in Women

- Depression or anxiety
- Excess body hair
- Decreased libido
- Night sweats
- Chronic fatigue
- Hair loss
- Irregular bowel movements
- Vaginal dryness
- Weight management problems
Common Hormone Imbalances in Men and Women
Cortisol and Adrenal
Cortisol and adrenal fatigue are very common in today’s high-stress society. Cortisol is a steroid hormone often called “the stress hormone” because it rises in response to stress. Hormone therapy for imbalances of these hormones may include supplementation and lifestyle changes. We often recommend that patients with cortisol and adrenal imbalances do whatever they can to reduce stress in their lives.
We also recommend therapy, meditation, yoga, vacations, and other relaxing practices. When we prescribe supplements, we provide detailed dosage instructions based on each patient’s needs, size, etc.
Thyroid
Your thyroid produces thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3). These thyroid hormones help regulate your metabolism. If they get too low, you could experience chronic fatigue, weight gain, depression, and muscle weakness. If they get too high, you could become anxious or irritable and experience a rapid heartbeat.
We may prescribe supplements like Seleno-Iodide or Thyrotain to restore thyroid balance. In some cases, we may also prescribe thyroid medications like desiccated thyroid capsules or NP thyroid tablets.
Testosterone
Low testosterone is one of the most common hormone imbalances in men. It can cause low libido, loss of muscle mass, erectile dysfunction, and mood changes. In women, low testosterone can lead to fatigue, muscle weakness, low energy, and mood swings.
We may prescribe a bioidentical hormone replacement cream, injection, or pellet placement for low testosterone. During your consultation, we’ll review all the benefits of this treatment. We’ll also recommend the correct form of testosterone therapy for your preferences and needs. Additionally, we’ll inform you of potential side effects and what to do if you experience any of them. However, research shows that testosterone implants have low complication rates.
Melatonin
Insulin
Female-Specific Hormone Imbalances
Progesterone
Progesterone regulates menstrual cycles, maintains optimal uterine health, and supports healthy pregnancies. When progesterone levels dip too low, the body tends to compensate by making too much estrogen. This can lead to symptoms such as depression, weight gain, decreased sex drive, and a higher risk of miscarriage.
You may need hormone replacement therapy to bring your progesterone back to a healthy level. We often prescribe progesterone immediate-release capsules, sustained-release capsules, and troches. Side effects may include yeast infections, acid reflux, nipple tenderness, and morning grogginess.
Estrogen
Estrogen comes in three forms: estrone, estriol, and estradiol. Each form has different bodily functions. When any of these estrogens become imbalanced, adverse health effects can occur. Elevated estrone, for example, can cause bloating, decreased libido, moodiness, and weight gain.
When you see us for treatment, we may recommend dietary changes to ensure you eat the right estrogen-balancing foods. We may also prescribe supplements or bioidentical hormone replacement therapy to bring your estrogen back into proper balance.
Androgens
Androgens are hormones that regulate sexual function and development. They include DHEA, DHT, testosterone, dehydroepiandrosterone, and androstenedione. Women with excess androgens may experience excessive hair growth, hormonal acne, and changes in their menstrual cycles.
We often treat androgen imbalances with prescriptions like Spironolactone or supplements like Cosmedix. Potential side effects of Spironolactone include dizziness, leg cramping, increased urination, and low blood pressure.
